How to ignore your sister – the molecular basis of interhomolog bias

Location: Friedrich Miescher Laboratory
Project description
Meiotic recombination must place between two homologous chromosomes, yet the identical sister chromatid is a much more attractive partner. How is the homologous chromosome chosen? Using recombinant kinases, cohesin complexes and meiosis specific chromatin you will explore the molecular basis of interhomolog bias in vitro. Protein interaction experiments coupled with structural biological approaches will generate detailed models that can be subsequently tested in vivo.
